Determinate type:

End of each stem produces a flower cluster that stops growth in that direction. Lateral branches develop that eventually terminate in a flowery cluster. Plants are smaller, more bushy, and generally are not desirable for staking.

Indeterminate type:

Flower clusters are produced between nodes and the growing point continues indefinitely. Well adapted for staking.
